IITM grad: 2021
Madhurima graduated with a Dual Degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from IIT Madras in 2021 and is now pursuing MS in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University. She comes from the wine capital of India- Nasik. Madhurima has been involved in the arts since childhood, but it was not until ninth grade that she discovered her passion for music while attempting to sing songs by Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift and that was the beginning of her music journey. She actively participated in musical events both in school and college.
Despite her initial fears that academics at IIT Madras would prevent her from pursuing music, she found the opposite to be true. She was an active member of the IITM music contingent team, participating and winning several singing competitions. One of her proudest moments was being named the "Face of Saarang" for her singing performance at Saarang.
Madhurima is always seeking to learn new instruments and is currently learning the guitar. She sings a variety of styles, with her favorites being Bollywood and Western pop. She loves to create and post music videos on YouTube and Instagram. She posted her first cover on Same Old Love by Selena Gomez on YouTube, in 2017. Her most recent music video is a mashup on Sooraj Dooba Hain and Sau Aasmaan.
She often looks back on her time at IIT Madras, reminiscing the picturesque campus roads, the rooftop views from various departments, the delicious biryani at Mummy-Daddy restaurant, her daily ritual of drinking filter-coffee in the mess, and even spending time with the monkeys, spotted deers, and birds. Her most memorable moment was when she had to confront a monkey trying to steal her bag during Shaastra 2018. The memories and friendships formed during her time at IIT Madras will always hold a special place in her heart.
