Meet the IIT Madras Director - Prof. V. Kamakoti

In 2024 Director Kamakoti did several webinars with IITM alums from the San Francisco Bay Area. These webinars were hosted by the IITMAANA Bay Area Chapter with small groups of alums to make the conversations interactive and interesting. Below are the recordings from one of these sessions.

Director Kamakoti shares several updates about IIT Madras and his vision for what IIT Madras can do on various fronts. He is looking for involvement and help from the Alumni community located anywhere in the world. Watch the recordings to understand his plans, the passion he exhibits, and how Alumni can help, even with a few hours of their time.

Q&A Session with Alumni

Here is a list of areas Director Kamakoti is looking for alumni to help with:

1. Help create curriculum for courses that will bridge gaps towards employability

2. Volunteer a few hours as a Listener in the Be Happy program 

3. Participate in the YAARI program to help students

4. Attract Venture Capitalists to IIT Madras as early investors

5. Identify one or more villages and help setup a Rural Interaction Center (RIC). Optionally, help with the RIC at a village.

6. Be involved in raising a US$1B endowment to give future IIT Madras directors the ability to execute infrastructure projects:

   1. 1. ⁠Classroom complex

      2. ⁠Mega mess

      3. ⁠Convention arena

      4. ⁠Sports and culture facilities 

      5. Young faculty chair
