IITM grad: 1983
Chandran has been entertaining audiences in cafes, wine bars and other music venues for some years. He plays the acoustic guitar and sings covers that span the decades and genres, from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Coldplay to Paul Simon to George Ezra to Steely Dan to The Beatles to Green Day to older jazz standards.
He’s had the opportunity to play in Bangalore (Cafe Noir, UB City) for many years, and on his travels in Helsinki, Cork, Shanghai,... In the Bay Area you can find Chandran solo or with his trio at Vino Locale in Palo Alto on Thursdays.
Chandran (Simple, as he was known in IIT) remembers fondly his musical roots in Wing 6 in Godavari which had so much talent and people to learn from - Nitish Kati, Venky Krishnaswamy, Venugopal, Arun Kumar, Viji. Misspent afternoons listening to the twang of the guitar and Sultans of Swing or Black Magic Woman on the rusted metal cot at the top of the stairs. And of course his brother Shivram (yes, Dimple!), a couple of years his senior at IIT-M taught him his first few chords and introduced a lot of people to his fine keyboard playing with the IIT band.
In his other life, Chandran has been a software entrepreneur. He is currently working on projects to combat the flow of misinformation online. Please support Gigafact, a nonprofit that he founded, that equips local journalism at scale to intercept claims circulating online and bring credible content into conversations.
